Allow your children to be bored
Children can never get bored.
We live in a world where everything moves fast, where we are stimulated by technology from the moment we open our eyes until we close them late at night. Most days there are no breaks from screens and outside stimuli; there is no time to just look up, stop and take a deep breath. We worry constantly. We worry about the email from that client to whom we didn’t reply instantly, about the text we received from a friend and it’s still pending on the screen because we couldn’t get to it immediately. Technology makes us become more and more anxious. Or rather the wrongful use of it.
Our children are born into this world we created, we developed, in which we evolved. They see grown-ups on their computers, laptops, phones, tablets and other technological gadgets. More often than not, they learn to swipe with their chubby fingers on a touch screen before they can speak their first words. For some of us, this fact is hard to swallow and digest, a fact that makes us wonder if the future is slowly heading for the scenario in WALL-E.
Playtime was a time when we were left to be.
